These are a series of lantern slides from the Brent Archive showing the Dallmeyer workers at work.

I believe that this is not a single group but contains material taken on different occasions during the late 19th., and early 20th.century. I initially made the mistake of thinking that those photographs showing the workers wearing wing collars were earlier than those showing soft collars, i.e. in lantern sldes 60 and 61. However I discovered that the wing collar, in England, became popular in the late 1880s and flourished until the first world war.

I am inclined to believe that the worker shown in lantern slide number 55 is an earlier photograph of the gentleman shown in lantern slide number 60, and may be Alec Strachan whose portrait is shown in an article celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of J.H.Dallmeyer in 1910.

The lantern slide numbers are those given by Brent Archive ©2008.
